Pat Cortellessa grew up in Providence, Rhode Island and went to Central High School from 1970 until he graduated in 1974. Following graduation, he attended CCRI from which he graduated in 1980. Throughout the 80's Pat invested in commercial real estate in Providence, most notably some night clubs and restaurants. Pat is currently operating a real estate management company.

His political stance against Mayor Vincent Cianci in the 90's should be remembered for him standing up to corruption. Mayor Cianci and several of his top administrators went to prison for several years for Federal RICO charges.
